One thing I learned throughout ENG 390 was that time management plays a big role in writing. Writing assignments are usually better when there is enough time to plan, draft, and revise instead of trying to complete everything at the last minute. Even though this is something I already knew, this class reminded me how important it really is.
There were times during the semester when assignments felt easier because I worked on them over a longer period of time. Other times, when I waited too long, the writing process became more stressful. It is harder to focus on organization and clarity when trying to finish quickly. Professional writing especially requires attention to detail, which can be difficult when rushing.
I also realized that writing often takes longer than expected. Even shorter assignments may require brainstorming, revising, and formatting before they feel complete. Sometimes I thought I was finished with an assignment, but after rereading it later, I noticed mistakes or areas that could be improved. This showed me that writing is usually a process instead of something completed in one step.
Another thing I noticed is that planning ahead can make writing feel less overwhelming. Breaking assignments into smaller parts makes them easier to manage. Even spending a short amount of time on writing each day can help reduce stress compared to trying to do everything at once.
Overall, ENG 390 helped remind me that writing and time management are connected. Professional writing usually looks more polished when writers give themselves enough time to think through ideas and revise carefully. While procrastination can still be difficult to avoid sometimes, I better understand how planning ahead can improve both the quality of writing and the overall writing experience.
